Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that belongs to the growth hormone secretagogue class. It acts as an agonist at the ghrelin receptor, also called the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1a. The compound was designed in the 1990s during a search for agents that release growth hormone with fewer off-target hormonal effects than earlier secretagogues. It appears in the research literature under several sequence-based names. Material supplied for laboratory work is normally a lyophilized solid, and it is not marketed as an approved therapeutic in major jurisdictions.
The molecule contains five residues, including alpha-aminoisobutyric acid, D-2-naphthylalanine, and D-phenylalanine, and it ends in a lysine amide. Non-natural and D-configured residues make the chain less susceptible to common peptidases, which helps explain its resistance to rapid breakdown. Its molecular formula is C38H49N9O5, corresponding to a free-base mass near 711.9 daltons. The C-terminal amide removes a negative charge and is a recurring feature in receptor-active peptides of this family. These structural choices are usually discussed as the basis for its selectivity profile.

At the receptor level, ipamorelin binds GHS-R1a and triggers signaling through Gq-coupled pathways. Activation leads to calcium release and downstream effects in pituitary somatotroph cells. These events promote the release of growth hormone into circulation. The response depends on the presence of the receptor and on the physiological state of the animal or tissue studied. Because the receptor is also found in other tissues, effects beyond the pituitary have been examined in laboratory models, though the extent of those effects remains an area of ongoing study.
One distinguishing feature reported in animal studies is selectivity. Ipamorelin stimulated growth hormone release with limited elevation of adrenocorticotropic hormone or cortisol compared with earlier secretagogues such as GHRP-6. This pattern has been described as more selective for the growth hormone axis. The finding comes mainly from preclinical work, and the degree to which it holds across species and doses is not fully settled. Reports also describe effects on gastric motility in animal models, suggesting activity outside the pituitary, though the clinical relevance of this observation is uncertain.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that belongs to the growth hormone secretagogue family. Its sequence is Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, and its molecular mass is approximately 711.9 daltons. The compound was described in the late 1990s by researchers seeking molecules that release growth hormone with fewer side effects than earlier secretagogues. It is a laboratory and research compound, not an approved medicine in most jurisdictions.
At the molecular level, ipamorelin acts as an agonist at the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, also called the ghrelin receptor or GHS-R1a. Binding to this receptor on pituitary somatotroph cells triggers a signaling cascade that leads to growth hormone release. The effect is mediated through phospholipase C and calcium mobilization rather than through the cyclic AMP pathway used by growth hormone releasing hormone. The two pathways are complementary, and combined stimulation produces a larger response than either alone.
Signal transduction begins when the peptide binds GHSR-1a on pituitary somatotrophs. The receptor couples to Gq/11 proteins, activating phospholipase C, which cleaves phosphatidylinositol bisphosphate into inositol trisphosphate and diacylglycerol. Inositol trisphosphate releases calcium from intracellular stores, and the resulting rise in cytosolic calcium drives growth hormone vesicle fusion. Concurrent Gs coupling and cyclic AMP elevation have also been reported, and the relative contribution of each arm to the overall secretory response is not fully settled.
Structural features distinguish the molecule from earlier secretagogues. An alpha-aminoisobutyric acid residue near the N-terminus and a D-naphthylalanine substitution increase receptor affinity, while C-terminal amidation improves resistance to exopeptidases. These modifications are associated with reduced stimulation of appetite and of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis compared with hexarelin or growth hormone releasing peptide-6. Whether the same profile applies at every dose level studied is a matter of ongoing investigation rather than settled consensus.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that acts as an agonist at the ghrelin receptor, also called the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1a. Its sequence incorporates non-natural residues, which slows enzymatic breakdown relative to short native peptides. In laboratory and early clinical work the compound is described as a selective growth hormone secretagogue because it raises growth hormone with comparatively little effect on other pituitary outputs. The degree to which that selectivity holds across species and dosing regimens remains an open question in the published literature.
== Physiological function == Until the late 1970s, hyaluronic acid was described as a "goo" molecule, a ubiquitous carbohydrate polymer that is part of the extracellular matrix. For example, hyaluronic acid is a major component of the synovial fluid and was found to increase the viscosity of the fluid. Along with lubricin, it is one of the fluid's main lubricating components. Hyaluronic acid is an important component of articular cartilage, where it is present as a coat around each cell (chondrocyte). When aggrecan monomers bind to hyaluronan in the presence of HAPLN1 (hyaluronic acid and proteoglycan link protein 1), large, highly negatively charged aggregates form. These aggregates imbibe water and are responsible for the resilience of cartilage (its resistance to compression). The molecular weight (size) of hyaluronan in cartilage decreases with age, but the amount increases. A lubricating role of hyaluronan in muscular connective tissues to enhance the sliding between adjacent tissue layers has been suggested. A particular type of fibroblasts, embedded in dense fascial tissues, has been proposed as being cells specialized for the biosynthesis of the hyaluronan-rich matrix. Their related activity could be involved in regulating the sliding ability between adjacent muscular connective tissues. Hyaluronic acid is also a major component of skin, where it is involved in repairing tissue. When skin is exposed to excessive UVB rays, it becomes inflamed (sunburn), and the cells in the dermis stop producing as much hyaluronan and increase the rate of its degradation.
=== Direct analysis of biotransformations === An adaptation of DESI is used to analyze enzyme-triggered chemical reactions, known as biotransformations, in enzymes and their products. Coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry, this procedure, known as DiBT-MS, can analyze a substrate 10-10,000 times quicker than LC-MS. DESI specifically can analyze the products in situ, removing the need for high solvent usage and creating these quicker analysis times.
In the lateral hypothalamus, leptin inhibits hunger by counteracting the effects of neuropeptide Y, a potent hunger promoter secreted by cells in the gut and in the hypothalamus counteracting the effects of anandamide, another potent hunger promoter that binds to the same receptors as THC In the medial hypothalamus, leptin stimulates satiety by promoting the synthesis of α-MSH, a hunger suppressant Thus, a lesion in the lateral hypothalamus causes anorexia (due to a lack of hunger signals) and a lesion in the medial hypothalamus causes excessive hunger (due to a lack of satiety signals). This appetite inhibition is long-term, in contrast to the rapid inhibition of hunger by cholecystokinin (CCK) and the slower suppression of hunger between meals mediated by PYY3-36. The absence of leptin (or its receptor) leads to uncontrolled hunger and resulting obesity. Fasting or following a very-low-calorie diet lowers leptin levels. Leptin levels change more when food intake decreases than when it increases. The dynamics of leptin due to an acute change in energy balance may be related to appetite and eventually, to food intake rather than fat stores.
Some segments of the 1960s hippie counterculture grew to dislike urban living and developed a preference for locally autonomous, sustainable, and decentralized technology, termed appropriate technology. This later influenced hacker culture and technopaganism.
The first cuprate superconductor was found in 1986 in the non-stoichiometric cuprate lanthanum barium copper oxide by IBM researchers Georg Bednorz and Karl Alex Müller. The critical temperature for this material was 35K, well above the previous record of 23 K. The discovery led to a sharp increase in research on the cuprates, resulting in thousands of publications between 1986 and 2001. Bednorz and Müller were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1987, only a year after their discovery. From 1986, many cuprate superconductors were identified, and can be put into three groups on a phase diagram critical temperature vs. oxygen hole content and copper hole content:

=== Action on the cell === After insulin enters the bloodstream, it binds to a membrane-spanning receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK). This glycoprotein is embedded in the cellular membrane and has an extracellular receptor domain, made up of two α-subunits, and an intracellular catalytic domain made up of two β-subunits. The α-subunits act as insulin receptors and the insulin molecule acts as a ligand. Together, they form a receptor-ligand complex. Binding of insulin to the α-subunit results in a conformational change of the protein, which activates tyrosine kinase domains on each β-subunit. The tyrosine kinase activity causes an autophosphorylation of several tyrosine residues in the β-subunit. The phosphorylation of 3 residues of tyrosine is necessary for the amplification of the kinase activity. This autophosphorylation triggers the activation of the docking proteins, in this case IRS (1-4) on which phosphatidylinositol-3-Kinase (PI-3K) can be attached or GRB2 where the ras guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) (also known as SOS) can be attached. PI-3K causes the phosphorylation of PIP2 to PIP3. This phospholipid acts as a docking site for PDPK1 and AKT2, which is then phosphorylated by the latter and PK2 to be activated. This leads to crucial metabolic functions such as synthesis of lipids, proteins, and glycogen. It also leads to cell survival and cell proliferation. Most importantly, the PI-3K pathway is responsible for the distribution of glucose for important cell functions.

According to Rebecca Herzig, the modern-day notion of body hair being unwomanly can be traced back to Charles Darwin's book first published in 1871 "The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex". Darwin's theory of natural selection associated body hair with "primitive ancestry and an atavistic return to earlier less developed forms", writes Herzig, a professor of gender and sexuality studies at Bates College in Maine. Darwin also suggests having less body hair was an indication of being more evolved and sexually attractive. As Darwin's ideas polarized, other 19th century medical and scientific experts started to link hairiness to "sexual inversion, disease pathology, lunacy, and criminal violence". Those connotations were mostly applied to women's and not men's body hair. By the early 20th century, the upper- and middle-class white America increasingly saw smooth skin as a marker of femininity, and female body hair as repulsive, with hair removal giving "a way to separate oneself from cruder people, lower class and immigrant". Harper's Bazaar, in 1915, was the first women's fashion magazine to run a campaign devoted to the removal of underarm hair as "a necessity". Shortly after, Gillette launched the first safety razor marketed specifically for women—the "Milady Décolleté Gillette", one that solves "...an embarrassing personal problem" and keeps the underarm "...white and smooth".
Within complex communities such as Bush Hill, petroleum seems less important than previously thought (MacDonald, 1998b). Through taphonomic studies (death assemblages of shells) and interpretation of seep assemblage composition from cores, Powell et al. (1998) reported that, overall, seep communities were persistent over periods of 500–1,000 years and probably throughout the entire Pleistocene. Some sites retained optimal habitat over geological time scales. Powell reported evidence of mussel and clam communities persisting in the same sites for 500–4,000 years. Powell also found that both the composition of species and trophic tiering of hydrocarbon seep communities tend to be fairly constant across time, with temporal variations only in numerical abundance. He found few cases in which the community type changed (from mussel to clam communities, for example) or had disappeared completely. Faunal succession was not observed. Surprisingly, when recovery occurred after a past destructive event, the same chemosynthetic species reoccupied a site. There was little evidence of catastrophic burial events, but two instances were found in mussel communities in Green Canyon Block 234. The most notable observation reported by Powell (1995) was the uniqueness of each chemosynthetic community site.

It has not been approved as a therapeutic by major regulators, and the human trial record is small and dated. Material available today is mostly sold as a research chemical for laboratory use. Approval and restriction status varies by country.
It binds the ghrelin receptor, known as the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1a. Activation of that receptor triggers signaling that leads to growth hormone release. Selectivity for growth hormone over cortisol and prolactin is the property most often cited for this compound.
Published estimates place the circulating half-life at roughly two hours in humans. Clearance involves peptidase activity and renal handling. Because the peptide is short-lived, release patterns after administration are usually described as pulsatile rather than sustained.
